Vasari Country Club - Action Plan

Day 1-30 – Immersion & Alignment

  • Immerse myself in the club’s culture, service standards, and vision.

  • Get to know staff and their current roles. Review the organizational structure.

  • Meet with department heads and key committee members to learn more about the operation and the season ahead.

  • Learn policies and procedures, SOP’s.

  • Review KPI’s and trends.

    • Rounds, merch turns, COGS, event participation, labor efficiency, lesson revenue, hard goods, club repair concession.

  • Introduction to members, staying visible and actively listening.

  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with golf staff to get a pulse on the operation and culture.

  • Dive into the tournament operation. Review and plan to add programming.

  • Drive the golf course to learn important areas, bottlenecks, and needs.

  • Study the tee sheet and review trends and configurations.

  • Establish fun working culture and direction by instilling passion and a desire to be great and constantly improve.

First 90 Days

Days 31-60 – Strategy, Structure, and Optimization

  • Clearly define roles and accountability for staff members.

  • Remain visible throughout the club and to the membership, asking for feedback and building relationships.

  • Create mentorship program for staff development.

  • Review KPI’s and trends to see overall direction.

  • Identify areas of opportunity.

  • Continue meeting with staff to further understand the operation’s rationales, strengths, and weaknesses.

  • Review touchpoints.

  • Start laying the groundwork for new staff procedures and member programs.

  • Identify opportunities to further elevate the experience.

Days 61-90 – Elevate, Develop, Track, and Plan

  • Implement policies, procedures, and programs that elevate the club and create member satisfaction, staff efficiency, and revenue.

  • Improve touchpoints and moments-of-truth.

  • Develop staff using mentorship program.

  • Track KPI’s and modify plans accordingly.

  • Continue to assess what currently works great and identify areas of improvement.

  • Meet with department heads and committees to continue communication and remain on the same. Pitch and learn ideas.

  • Identify and improve the current brand of the golf operation and club through initiatives, programs, communication, and service.

  • Strategize, meet with team members, establish long-range objectives.

First Year Priorities

  • Build trust and relationships with members and staff.

  • Evaluate operational strengths and areas of opportunity.

  • Enhance visibility and communication throughout the entire golf operation.

  • Continue elevating tournament and social programming.

  • Develop long-range operational and financial goals.

  • Strengthen the staff development and accountability systems.

  • Improve consistency in service standards and member and guest experience.

Initial Program Ideas

  • 4 @ 4 - Four holes of golf accompanied by one of the staff members to give etiquette, course care, and other tips.

  • Superintendent’s Revenge - Event where the grounds crew sets up crazy/hard pin placements and puts obstacles in the way for a twist on the everyday scramble.

  • Par 3 Contests - Whether it be 18-holes of par 3’s, or a 1-hole par 3 shootout set up for an event.

  • Match Play Event - Teams or singles square off against each other in a season-long match play event.

  • Play for Pink - Tournament supporting Breast Cancer Awareness.

  • Putting Club - Weekly club for members to come out and test their putting skills against an 18-hole course set up on the practice green.

  • Short Game & Putting Championships - Match play events on the practice green and short game area to crown the best in the club.

  • Masters Pool - Friendly competition to see who can pick the best team of players participating in the Masters.

  • Super Bowl Event - Football-themed scoring event.

  • Beer & Bunkers/Sangria & the Short Game - Two programs designed to teach useful tools for the golf course while also providing a social and food & beverage element.

  • Twi-Night - Sixsomes with fun team formats.

  • Weekly Newsletter - Etiquette, tips, rules, and other important golf information emailed to the members on a weekly basis.

  • Video Series - Updates, rules, tips, education, and other news delivered with videos.

  • Couples Clinic - Afternoon clinic designed for couples who play regularly.

  • Member & Staff Play Away Trips - Especially in the summer during reciprocal season, making groups including the golf staff and playing offsite.

  • Beat the Pro - Staff vs. members in a handicapped scramble.

  • Club Trade-In Program - Ability for members to get shop credit back for their old clubs.

  • 9 & Dine - 9-hole event hosted in the late afternoon with dinner to follow.

  • Wedge Gapping - Sessions to help players remove gaps in their distances with wedges, and when to use each club.

  • Ball Fittings - Helping players pick the correct ball for their swing speed and overall needs.

  • Strategic Sales in the Golf Shop.

    • Spin the wheel, Easter Eggs, Balloons, wear your logo, 12 days of Christmas, shamrock sale, etc.
